How long is your phone's pin?

What is the best length to make your phone’s pin in order to balance security and convenience?

“best length” not sure but i use passphrase of 4 words and its convinient cause i type fast…

I’m using GrapheneOS and only have a four character pin. If someone tries to brute force the password they’ll find themselves waiting longer and longer for another opportunity the guess.

Good point. What do you guys think? Is 4 digits enough?

I use 6-7 digits, which I change periodically. 4 digit pins are still reasonable against brute force (as long as it isn’t something noobish like 1234 or 1111), though they are more prone to shoulder-surfing attacks, since you only have to watch for and ingest 4 numbers. Maybe that is too granular of an analysis, but perhaps will resonate with someone.

GrapheneOS shuffles the digits, so the numbers aren’t where you’d expect them to be.

I think I’ll stick with 4 digits for now, it’s the most convenient and still pretty secure.

9 characters altogether, I use a mix of numbers, symbols and letters though that are easy for me to remember.

Right now mine is 7 characters, but thinking of extending that out. Same for my duress PIN.

After thinking about this, I’ve changed my pin to be 6 digits.

I recently changed my pin to 8 digits, takes getting used to but worth it.

I might need to up it to 10…
